Driving in the mountains
in the Pyrenees

The mountain roads of the Pyrenees, with their tight bends and twists and turns, are an invitation to escape. As you climb towards the passes, you’ll feel the adrenalin pumping, while admiring the spectacular panoramas. However, mountain driving requires a certain amount of vigilance, especially in winter.

The Loi Montagne (French Mountain Law ) requires that you have the right equipment to drive safely in winter. We recommend that you equip your vehicle with 3PMSF tyres or snow tyres for better grip on snow-covered roads. Chains or snow socks are also invaluable for driving over the highest passes, which can sometimes be closed in heavy snow. Keep up to date with the weather conditions and any closures so that you can adapt your itinerary accordingly.

Fill up on energy

For a carefree journey, there are several service stations in the region. At Gourdan, Cierp-Gaud and Luchon, you’ll find everything you need to fill up. These stops are also an opportunity to take a break and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

If you’re travelling by electric car, rest assured that our region is well equipped with recharging points. You’ll find them in the main towns, but make sure you plan ahead for recharging, especially in small mountain villages where there may be fewer facilities.
