Garonne

La Garonne, bien plus qu’un fleuve !

It crosses and has drawn our valleys, over time, while creating history … From its source, in the central Spanish Pyrenees, not far from the ski resort of Baqueira-Beret , the Garonne winds with vigor and generosity through the Pyrenees 31.

“Invite yourself to Saint-Béat, the little Venice of the Pyrenees”

Mountain torrent born in the Aneto glacier, the Garonne arrives tumultuously in Fos then is wiser in Saint-Béat where it has pierced a narrow passage in a glacial lock. As a result, since Antiquity, the village has become an obligatory and strategic passage. Saint-Béat has been known since Antiquity for the exploitation of its marble. Moreover, entire blocks were transported on the Garonne to the old port of Montréjeau ⚓

A royal city for a long time 👑 it received the appellation of “Clef de France” and “Passus-Lupi” (passage of the wolf). Wedged between the Garonne and the mountains, it exudes a very special charm.

On the heights of the village, you can see the castle dating from the 12th century to ensure the protection of the city and control of the valley. Do not hesitate to access this fortress 🏰 via the stairs from the center of the village.

The landscape is magnificent and the view of the Garonne and the valley is breathtaking 😍
