If you dream of grandeur and serenity, I recommend the climb up to the Port de Venasque, from the Hospice de France, for an unrivalled experience. The route is demanding, but the reward is a breathtaking view of the surrounding peaks. Bring a camera to capture your memories. There are no words to describe this corner of paradise… A magnificent hike, unique in the Pyrenees.
The roar of the Cascade d’Enfer still echoes in my memories. Just a stone’s throw from the Vallée du Lys, let yourself be enveloped by raw nature and feel the power of water and wind. A breathtaking spectacle!
The path from the Granges d’Astau leads you to this natural jewel. Surrounded by waterfalls, Lac d’Oô is the perfect spot for a picnic break, lulled by the murmur of the water. The hike is suitable for beginners/families and allows you to admire this jewel of the Pyrenees!
With its mountain villages, the Frontignes reveals an authentic face of the Pyrenees. Here, every village seems to whisper its secrets, whether it’s a legend handed down from generation to generation or a treasure hidden in a cobbled lane.
Saint-Béat-Lez, with its perched castle built on an eagle’s nest, is a veritable balcony overlooking the valley. A blend of nature and heritage, this village is a must-see. As you stroll along its cobbled streets, you’ll immediately be struck by the charm of its old houses, adorned with wooden balconies and colourful shutters. You’re sure to fall in love!
Another must-see is Barbazan: Barbazan, where history meets mystery! A former spa town, the village is famous for its lake, which is said to be the setting for a captivating legend. Today I’d like to share with you a hidden treasure in the Pyrenees: the charming village ofArtigue, which now has just thirty or so year-round residents! A typical little Pyrenean village near Luchon, it’s a very pleasant place to take a family walk. You’ll discover architecture and narrow streets typical of this part of France, as well as an impressive viewpoint over many of the peaks of the Luchon region.
Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges is a not-to-be-missed stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. This medieval village, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, is a real gem nestling in the central Pyrenees. Its picturesque streets lead you to the splendid Sainte-Marie cathedral, an architectural masterpiece combining Romanesque and Gothic styles. Below, the Roman remains of Valcabrère and the Saint-Just basilica further enhance this exceptional heritage. From the heights of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, take in the majesty of the Garonne valley. The curves of the river, surrounded by mountains, make for an impressive sight to behold.
