Three valleys in the Pyrenees for breathtaking hikes

Are you planning to go hiking in the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees soon? It’s a great idea, because this massif is truly superb and offers some splendid views!
Today I’d like to share with you a selection of my most beautiful hikes in the Pyrenees, which I’ve been lucky enough to do with my best friends! For this selection of hikes, you’ll discover three unique environments, each offering a different perspective on this majestic territory.

Walks for everyone
in the foothills

This hike is accessible to young and old alike. With no real change in altitude, it presents no technical difficulties. The Pyrenean foothills between Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges and the Frontignes are a haven for walkers of all abilities. Here, we’ve explored paths that wind through lush green hills, perfect for a hike with family, friends or a romantic stroll. This corner of nature is ideal for gently immersing yourself in the world of the Pyrenees.

I particularly recommend the heritage trail from Valcabrère to Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges. Between the ancient chapels and the bucolic landscapes, we were particularly touched by the serene beauty of the place. My friend Julie, our official photographer, immortalised these precious moments that will remain as wonderful memories.

The wild mountains
in the Saint-Béat-Lez valley

Here’s another hike I really enjoy! I now invite you to enter the realm of wild mountains in the Saint-Béat-Lez valley. It was here that we took on the challenge of the Burat summit, a route that transports you to the heart of the untamed Pyrenees. Along the way, we followed in the footsteps of the paths of freedom, a route steeped in history and emotion. A change of scenery guaranteed! That’s the feeling that dominates when I think back on this route. I’m not taking any chances when I say that you’re in for an eyeful!
My friend Léo, usually not very expressive, was surprised by the majesty of the landscapes when he reached the Mémorial de l’Ours at Melles. The Pic du Gar and the Saillant rose up before us, silent witnesses to our efforts. And what about the cabanes de Fos, where we shared a convivial picnic with an incredible panoramic view?

The loop of the Mourtis crests was another highlight, a hike that had us touching the clouds while offering breathtaking panoramas. The Escalette mountain pasture was our haven of tranquillity, a place where time seems to stand still.

Touching summits at 3,000 m
in the upper Luchonnais valley

For lovers of the high mountains, the upper Luchonnais valley is an unrivalled playground. We were captivated by the 3,000m peaks, the guardians of the Pyrenees’ secrets. The lakes and waterfalls that dot this region are breathtaking in their beauty.
My gang and I spent a day at Lac d’Oô, where we were greeted by the impressive roar of the Cascade d’Enfer, a natural spectacle that left us all speechless. Higher up, Lac Vert and Lac Bleu offered us unforgettable moments of contemplation, with their crystal-clear waters reflecting the snow-capped peaks.
Climbing the Pic de Maupas was a real challenge for me, but the reward at the top was worth every effort. From up there, the panorama of the Spijeoles peak and the Perdiguère peak is simply breathtaking. To conclude our journey, we crossed the port of Vénasque, a mythical passage that struck us with its wild beauty.

Every valley in the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees tells a story, ready to be discovered by those who dare to venture there. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just a nature lover, this area has so much to offer. Embark on this adventure and let yourself be enchanted by the magic of the Pyrenees. You’ll be left with a head full of stars and the desire to put on your hiking boots for a new escapade!
