Lac d'Espingo

The lakes, jewels of the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees

Having lived in the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees for 10 years and Quentin for 5, we’re keen to help you discover the treasures of this region, which remains one of the most beautiful in our eyes. Today, we invite you to discover a jewel of the Pyrenees: the lakes. These pure, authentic natural settings invite you to contemplate, adventure and relax. Nestling in magnificent landscapes, they are a perfect excuse to escape and marvel. Whether you’re a keen hiker or a fan of leisurely strolls, you’re sure to love these magical places. We’re warning you right now: these are nuggets! Lakes that will make you want to stay in the Pyrenees for life!

Immerse yourself in nature
with walks to the lakes

One spring day, we were looking for an excuse to go hiking. We opted for Lac d’Oô, with its fresh air, birdsong and excitement at every step. The Lac d’Oô is undoubtedly one of the most famous, surrounded by imposing cliffs and a magnificent waterfall. It’s an immersive experience where nature gradually reveals itself. As we continued our journey towards Lac d’Espingo and then Lac Saussat, the wild flora continually amazed us: rhododendrons, gentians and martagon lilies added touches of colour to this grandiose picture.

The crystal-clear waters of the Espingo and Saussat lakes reflect the sky in an almost unreal spectacle. We often stopped to admire the clarity of the waters, where the mountains are reflected majestically. Every effort is rewarded by the sight of these natural mirrors. Each of these lakes has a unique landscape that gives the impression of having travelled thousands of kilometres.

Towards Lac Vert, Lac Bleu
and the Etang d'Uls

Other natural wonders include Lac Vert, Lac Bleu and Etang d’Uls, all of which will blow you away! On another summer’s day, we headed for Lac Vert, whose name aptly evokes the emerald hue of its waters. Further on, the Blue Lake offered us a palette of deep blues, a spectacle that Quentin and I contemplated in silence, transfixed by so much beauty.

Less well known, the Etang d’Uls is a haven of peace. The hike to get there is an opportunity to immerse yourself in unspoilt nature. We were surprised by the diversity of the flora and the tranquillity of the area, a real return to our roots.

Walks and picnics
by the water

For quieter moments, the valley’s lakes offer ideal walks. Lake Badech, for example, is perfect for a family walk. Quentin and I like to stroll there at weekends, hand in hand, enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It’s also a favourite spot for picnics. We often set up our blankets in the shade of the trees, enjoying the view of the sun reflecting off the water. It’s a moment of sharing and togetherness that you’re sure to appreciate.

Relaxation at Lake Géry
and Saint-Pé d'Ardet

We’re getting to know you! As much as you love effort and sport, you also appreciate moments of relaxation and access to sublime panoramas without breaking a sweat! The Géry and Saint-Pé d’Ardet lakes are perfect for a peaceful day out. Whether you go for a walk or just sit by the water with a good book, these places have a soothing atmosphere. We love to recharge our batteries here, lulled by the gentle lapping of the water, after our day’s work.

Water sports and fishing :
another way to enjoy the lakes

The lakes of the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees are more than just something to be admired: they are also something to be experienced through water. In summer, we enjoy swimming in these crystal-clear waters, a feeling of incomparable freedom. And for fishing enthusiasts, these lakes are teeming with trout and other fish, promising moments of relaxation and satisfaction.

We may live close to the mountains, but each hike is as amazing as the first. Each visit to the lakes is a new adventure, a suspended moment when nature envelops us. These magical places offer a moment of simple, authentic happiness. So grab your rucksack and set off to explore these jewels of the Pyrenees. You’ll come away with unforgettable memories and an irresistible desire to return.
