Family adventure in the Pyrenees

What if your next family holiday became a real playground? Getting together with your tribe is an opportunity to share laughter, discoveries and unforgettable moments. And for that, the Pyrenees have it all! Between Bagnères-de-Luchon, Saint-Béat-Lez and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Heritage, nature, sporting activities or just relaxing, there’s something to keep young and old busy, come rain or shine!

Dive into the history
and legends of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges

Did you know thata crocodile once lived here? We discovered this legend as a family on a visit to the magnificent town of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges. The children were enthralled to learn that such a strange beast could have hidden in the surrounding rivers.

The Sainte-Marie cathedral, perched at the top of the hill, is a real architectural gem. Julie and Victor loved its large solid wooden doors and majestic organ. For the more curious, you can take a guided tour (perfect for keeping the attention of younger visitors, with tasty anecdotes about knights, bishops and, of course, the famous crocodile).

Go on a treasure hunt
in Saint-Béat-Lez

After Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, we headed for Saint-Béat-Lez and its famous treasure! Here, we played at being little explorers, discovering pieces of silverware, ancient manuscripts and marble sculptures. The children were fascinated by the idea of a “real treasure” at their fingertips, and we parents enjoyed watching them ask a thousand questions.

We then headed off on the heritage walk between Antichan-de-Comminges and Saint-Pé-d’Ardet. This walk is accessible to all, and offers breathtaking views over the valley. As you make your way along, you’ll hear the stories of the region told on explanatory panels, and every bend in the road is an opportunity to look up and marvel.

In the footsteps of the
resistance fighters at Marignac

In Marignac, we followed the Paths of Freedom, a trail that allows you to walk in the footsteps of the Resistance fighters of the Second World War. This walk is both moving and educational. With the children, it was the perfect opportunity to engage in a discussion about essential values such as freedom and solidarity. The route is signposted, and each stage invites reflection. The experience left a lasting impression on our hearts.

Relaxation and leisure in Luchon :
something for all ages

Make way for well-being and relaxation! Luchon is a haven of peace where young and old alike can enjoy themselves. What’s not to be missed? The Luchon thermal baths and their thermoludic area. While the children play in the water games, the parents enjoy the relaxing baths. The hot water soothes tired muscles, and the vaporarium (a natural steam grotto unique in Europe) invites you to disconnect completely.

In the evening, we took our seats at Le Rex cinema. On the programme: laughter, emotion and a good time as a family watching a film. It was the perfect opportunity to unwind after a busy day. Julie and Victor also loved the ride on Luchon’s little train through the Allee d’Étigny, lined with shops and bookshops.

Sports adventures
in the great outdoors

The Pyrenees are a real playground for active families! Our little tribe never got bored for a second. At Labroquère, we discovered indoor climbing. The children outdid themselves to reach the summit. The atmosphere was both competitive and friendly.
For thrill-seekers, head for the bike park at Peyragudes or the mountain bike trails at Le Mourtis. With certified instructors, young and old alike can have fun in complete safety on circuits adapted to every level.

In winter, it’s all about the snow: skiing, Airboard sledging and all-terrain scooters. Victor and Julie still have stars in their eyes when they think back to their rafting trip down the Garonne. The splashing, the rapids, the cries of joy… it’s an experience you’ll want to have at least once!

Exploring nature
and its wonders

For a breath of fresh air, there’s nothing like exploring the flora and fauna of the Pyrenees 31. Our favourites?

  • The Pyrénées Hô park: giant zip-lines, accrobranch courses and jumps into the void, enough to fill you up with adrenalin.
  • The Cité des Abeilles in Génos: a fun area where children can learn all about the life of bees. Special mention for the honey tasting at the end of the visit!
  • The botanical garden at Melles: the perfect nature walk to take a breather, observe and discover the typical plants of the region.
  • The Vénasque brewery: a gourmet stop-off that delighted young and old alike. While the adults sample the craft beers, the children have fun observing the brewing process.

Colourful memories during the Flower Festival

Don’t miss the Flower Festival in Luchon! It was a magical moment for our little family. The floral floats and colourful brass bands filled the children with wonder. The streets were filled with an explosion of colour, music and joy. This festive moment remains one of the fondest memories of our stay. We found ourselves humming the music long after the festivities were over.
