Bicycle accommodation
to cross the Pyrenees in complete peace of mind!

This summer, Julien set himself a challenge: cycling across the Pyrenees! And guess what? I agreed to follow him on this big challenge as a couple, and we weren’t disappointed! Between effort and comfort, we shared an experience that was both sporting and rejuvenating.
Cycling here takes on a unique dimension, with each pedal stroke bringing you a little closer to the natural and cultural wonders of Luchon, Saint-Béat-Lez and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges. With breathtaking scenery and a host of accommodation with the “Accueil Vélo” label, we had an experience that was as rewarding as it was environmentally friendly. So get your bike ready, strap on your helmet and let yourself be seduced by the magic of this unique region!

Hire and transport
safe cycling for a light-hearted ride

As we weren’t well equipped at home, we opted to hire a bike locally. There are many rental options available in the area. Whether you’re looking for a high-performance road bike, a sturdy mountain bike or an electric option to help you on the climbs, you’ll find something to suit your needs.

What’s more, our secure bike transport services make it easy to move your bike between the various points on your itinerary, so you can enjoy your holiday to the full without any logistical worries.

Cycling routes and
and signposted routes invite you to explore

This sporting adventure began along one of the many signposted cycle routes that wind through green valleys and steep mountain passes. As soon as I started pedalling, a feeling of happiness and freedom came over me. Needless to say, the first few kilometres were very pleasant. The network of cycle routes and paths is ideal for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a fan of leisurely rides. Each circuit offers a new perspective on the region, from breathtaking panoramas of the Pyrenean peaks to charming villages nestling in the valleys.

We took in the first passes before taking a breather. The rest areas for cyclists are well-spaced along the routes, offering well-deserved breaks to admire the scenery, have a picnic or simply recharge your batteries. We particularly appreciated these moments of tranquillity, when only the surrounding nature could disturb our complicit silence.

A practical
with "Accueil Vélo" accredited accommodation

The“Accueil Vélo” label guarantees cyclists a warm welcome and services tailored to their specific needs. After several hours of cycling, we took refuge in a cosy little gîte for our first night, but the charming chambre d’hôte or comfortable hotel option is also available. In these accommodations, everything is designed to make your cycling holiday as easy as possible. Facilities often include secure storage for your bikes, repair kits and personalised advice on your daily itineraries.

For our second night, we stayed in a small hotel in Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges. We particularly appreciated the attention to detail, with the owners, who are keen cyclists themselves, advising us on little-known but incredibly beautiful routes. Their passion for cycling was palpable and made our stay even more memorable. After a good night’s sleep and not being used to cycling so much, I didn’t know how I was going to recover after this third day. All in all, I was rather surprised that my legs didn’t hurt when I woke up. Julien is also feeling great. For this third stage, we decided to set off in the fresh air at around 6.30am to enjoy a magnificent sunrise over the mountains. This magical new stage ends at a new gîte. We showered, ate and went to sleep!

Sustainable tourism and
ecotourism by bike: pedalling for a better future

Travelling sustainably is of paramount importance to us. By choosing to travel by bike, we’ve adopted a form of soft mobility that reduces the carbon footprint of our journeys while providing an authentic connection with the local area. Each journey becomes an opportunity to discover local eco-tourism initiatives, meet passionate producers and support an economy that respects the environment.

As we cycled through these unspoilt landscapes, we realised how important it is to preserve this natural wealth for future generations. It’s a powerful and rewarding feeling, one that stayed with us long after your trip was over.
As I sit down, I can’t help but realise what I’ve just achieved: cycling across the Pyrenees on my own power. I have the strange sensation of having been away for several weeks, such was the richness and intensity of the adventure. And yet we completed our challenge in five days!

Our trip to the Pyrenees wasn’t just limited to cycling. After a day on the road, we took advantage of many other activities to enrich our stay: hiking, cultural visits, gastronomic discoveries… Every moment spent here is an invitation to savour the Pyrenean art of living to the full.

Whether you’re a keen cyclist looking for a new challenge or, like me, a curious traveller wishing to explore the beauty of the Pyrenees in a gentle and sustainable way, the “Accueil Vélo” accommodation offers you the ideal base for an emotionally-charged holiday. So get ready to hop on your bike and let yourself be seduced by the authentic charm of the Pyrenees.
